Question Avatar help?

I know these are the specifications for avatars: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).

So shouldn't a 150x150 avatar or a 110 x 105 avatar with less KBs work?

What are they trying to say with 'whichever is smaller'?

Thanks.

Thank you for the response.

But when it says 'whichever is smaller', doesn't that mean you just have to satisfy one of the criteria? (Like it will accept a larger pixel avatar because the memory is smaller? Otherwise why would it bother saying 'whichever is smaller' at the end? Surely it would just say the maxium is xxx and xxx)

Can you explain it, please?

err it's kinda hard to explain...Basically, when it says things like that it usually means that theres multiple critera and that it has to satisfy both. I am really bad explaining things like this though. Sorry.

It does mean you must satisfy both conditions.

The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).

Is equivalent to:

The size of your custom image must be less than 100x100 pixels and 19.5kb.

I really had no trouble uploading my avatar even though it's 23.5 KB

As long as it's 100x100 I think you'll be fine..

I COULD BE WRONG

Basically, whoever wrote whichever is smaller has a poor grasp of the English language.*

Stick with 100*100 and make it as small a filesize as you can.

*nerds - what ya gonna do?

http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/imageoptimizer/ for a quick way to lower file size or http://www.pixlr.com/editor/ to edit the file size and image size.

As has been said, it's basically just a grammatical error. It should really say "whichever is largest" - in other words it can't be larger than 100x100 or more than 19.5k.

A 150x150 or 110x105 avatar would be too big, pixel-wise. An 80x80 avatar that is 25kb would be too big, file-wise.
